How can you keep the faith when all you hear is no?

So today we were getting ready to go see a house and after an hour of the time being set…I get a call that the house was sold.  Sold?! How could it be sold when it was on the market just an hour before!

The weird thing is that I had a feeling.  I was convinced that something good was going to come from this house.  We’ve been on the hunt for almost a year and have a list a mile long of needs we need in a house…so when I saw this house I knew it could meet some of the big needs.

"No" Faith Lesson here 1
no…no big deal…right?

But now it was gone.  NO.

It’s a journey trying to understand God’s Will.  And to go from feeling like you saw where His Will was taking you to not understanding in the next breath is always a shock.

GOD SAYS YES IN 3 WAYS:  HE SAYS YES AND GIVES YOU WHAT YOU WANT.  HE SAYS NO AND GIVES YOU SOMETHING BETTER.  HE SAYS WAIT AND GIVES YOU THE BEST.  – thoughts.nd.quotes

I mean it seems like your child’s favorite word for most of their life and it seems like a word that you have to use religiously to your child… “No”.  “No don’t touch that.” “No don’t hit.” “No you can’t have my expensive computer and use it as your table top!”

“NO!”

This word is exhausting.

But just in the same way that when we say “no” to our child it’s not simply just “No”.  It’s “No, you can’t use the potted plant’s dirt to wash your hands because it’s not water (despite the fact that I poured water into it.) and it will create a bigger mess.”

I wish God’s “no’s” came with an obvious explanation…a reason!   And even though it didn’t,  it forced me to realize something.  I wasn’t listening.  Just like any dialogue there is talking and then there is listening.

I love guessing the ends to movies or guess the next move the main character is going to do.  I’m also notorious for cutting someone off in their story to “help” them finish it…when most times I’m completely off with where they were going with it!  I need to listen!

Back on my knees.

Even though the process of listening is not always my strong suit I’m learning I need to.  I need to listen to the end of God’s sentence to me…and not cut him off saying “I see what you’re saying.”

So today I listen.  Less of me…more of Him.  Welcome to Lent…where lessons are constantly being poured out!
