Tapping into the Words, Actions, and Music to Motivate: Quarantine style

It’s day 320 of the quarantine (or has it been only 2 weeks!!)…regardless where you are in your quarantine there’s no doubt that the downshift in our lives has been sucked (am I allowed to say that?!) I have definitely seen good things happen which I’ll share in another blog but I’ve officially cleaned the fridge, lapped our street 1031 times, stared deeply into each of my children's eyes with out blinking, and of course binged on ice cream!

So I don’t know about you but I’m in need of motivation! Motivation to do whatever you need to do today…even if it’s reorganizing your sock drawer or avoiding the freezer drawer and the leftover mint ice cream.

So I pinged my friends and asked them what’s their favorite motivation…whether it’s a quote… a song…or something they do!  And here’s what we came up with!

Things to Do to Boost your Motivation

Here are 3 things to help increase your motivation!

Start small.  
It can feel right now like our worlds are smaller than we want.  And yet it’s in the small things that we might have the most control over right now.  So take the small steps to make yourself feel better.  Cup of coffee.  Whip cream as a bonus. Check.  A lipstick that makes you feel beautiful…why not!! That comfy sweater that makes you feel like you’re swimming in a cloud. Check.  It’s ok to start small…toss in some gratitude for those small things and you got the pairing of a great day!

It's important to do the little things right now that can make you feel better!

Try Interrupting your pattern.
My days (since they mostly reside within the walls of my house and yard) get monotonous so this is a great place to start in changing things up.  It’s true I’m not keen on interruptions and yet right now in the place of my day to day interruptions are welcome.  So here are some ways to help that!

Things you can try to shake things up.  

- Add a movement to your day…stomp your feet, stretch, dance in the kitchen, yell a silly sound.  Any of these that you do with your body will help not only get you moving but change the tune of dull. I dare you to be silly! ;)

-Start your day with an upbeat song.

-Wake up earlier than you normally do to fit in some quiet or more prayer or a second cup of coffee.

Get up early and take some extra prayer time! (And an extra cup of coffee if you wish!)

-Add someone to your day…a phone call to a friend, a wave to your neighbor (yes, it’s ok to make eye contact!), even a cuddle with your son/daughter can change the tone of the monotony

Understand you’re not alone
It’s totally easy to fall in the mind set that you’re all alone in this especially when you can’t get out in the ways you’re used to.  But we’re actually surrounded by everyone else you know in a similar situation… So pull from the knowledge people are reachable and in this situation they can relate to you more than maybe they do during your normal everyday life.  So reach out and you’ll be surprised how much more motivated you feel to do today in all its glory!

It's easy to feel alone now but realize that now more than ever you probably relate to those around you! Reach out!

So all in all we all could use more motivation on these days when fear has crept into some parts of our mind, and our days are more restricted... never fear there is wisdom to be read, things we can change, and yes music to dance to!
